Rule 180
Preshipment Test Procedures
To prevent damage in Less than Truck Load Shipments.

In transit, a corrugated box is subjected to various hazards like constant vibration, abrasive rubbing, puncturing forces and of course, inclement weather conditions.

The American National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) in Rule 180 describes a number of tests that should be carried out to estimate possible damage in the process of transportation. It is a recent regulation relevant to Less than Truck Load (LTL) shipments.

This booklet explains the various test procedures prescribed by this rule. If these tests are carried out by the supplier or shipper before shipping, it would help ensure that the product reaches it's destination safely.
